Normally, when you see a notification on your dashboard stating that you have an update, you can access " Artwork de  edge> Updates«   and all you need to do is confirm to update a WordPress.org theme or plugin or your primary WordPress installation. 

Easy to do ? 

With the Envato Market plugin, updating all themes and plugins WordPress purchased on Themeforest and Codecanyon can be just as simple.

In this guide, we will propose all the steps to download the free Envato Market plugin, installation and activation of the latter.

Before you begin, it's important to note that you need to use an administrator account on your WordPress website to install the plugin and enable automatic updates.

Remember that Envato Market plugin only provides automatic updates for WordPress themes from ThemeForest and WordPress plugins from CodeCanyon (it will not provide the update for themes where WordPress plugins bought elsewhere!

Installing the Envato Market plugin

The first step is to download the plugin Envato Market. The latter is available through Github and is completely free.

Download the plugin zip file. No need to unzip it, we'll install it as is. Now that you have the plugin, go ahead and log into your WordPress installation where you want to add automatic updates.

All you have to do is install the plugin like us showed it to you in one of our previous tutorials.

Configuring the Envato Market plugin

The next step is to sync the Envato Market plugin with your Envato account to have access to all purchases from your Marketplace as well as item updates.

To start, click on the menu Envato Market from the dashboard. You should see a screen similar to the one above. The first step is to create an Envato API token. To do this, click on the link " generate a personal token«  (highlighted in red) 

If you are already logged in to your Envato Market account, you will be taken to the screen below (otherwise you will be prompted to log in before being redirected to this page).

On this screen, you can see what the Envato Market plugin requests for permission to access your Envato Market account (Envato websites, the ability to upload your items, a list of your purchases and verification of your purchases).

To provide your access token, check the box that you have read and agree to the terms, then click the green button to create your token.

Once your token is created, you will see a green success screen. Copy your token code (this is very important because Envato does not store a copy of the token for you), verify that you have copied it and click on the white button that you have  got the code.

Now go back to your WordPress installation and paste in your Envato API token, then click Save.

It is possible that you will encounter the error below when entering your token. Don't worry, just go back to the previous page and try again. It should work next time.

Once your token is saved and validated, your page will be refreshed to display your Envato Market page with additional tabs for your items. The added tabs display all the purchases of your WordPress themes and plugins as well as their version numbers and quick links to the themes and authors pages.

A note for web designers and design agencies

If you are a web design freelancer or a design agency that buys WordPress themes for its clients, you can use the Envato Market plugin to keep your clients' websites updated as well.

You don't have to give your customers access to all of your purchases, so instead you should use the OAuth personal tokens for single use (Oauth token for single use) .

You must first install the Envato Market plugin on your customer's website, then create a token by clicking on the link generate a personal token. Make a copy of your token as you would if you were creating your own token.

You will also need to locate theID of theme or plugin of your client. To find the ID, just go to the page on ThemeForest or Codecanyon and copy the numeric ID at the end of the URL.

Now, go back to the Envato Market page of your customer's website instead of sticking your token in the available global field, click on the button Add an item. This will open a pop-up window to enter your Envato token and the item ID.

Once you've saved the item, you can repeat the process to add all other purchases for that specific customer.

Now, the WordPress installation you worked on only shows the items (and related updates) that you added. 

Automatic Envato Market Updates for WordPress Themes and Plugins

Now that you have the Envato Market plugin installed and synced to your account, you'll have all your purchases and product updates at your fingertips.

If an update is available for an item you have purchased, you will see an orange notice like the image above.

In addition, if an update of the theme or plugin is available, you can also see it on the main page of WordPress updates by clicking on the refresh symbol on your navigation bar or by going to  Dashboard> Updates.

From there, you can process your update as usual by selecting and updating your item.

To update your item via the Envato Market plugin, simply click on the link Update in the orange notification to start installing your update.

If your item displays the message Update ... For more than a few minutes, refresh the page and try again.

Once the update is complete, you will quickly see a green notification that your article has been  update !

And that's all. As updates become available, you will be able to see them right from your dashboard (much more convenient than the original Envato sending method, and much cleaner than the previous Envato Toolbox ).
