Exporting page templates is one of my favorite features on Elementor. Why?

Because it saves me time having to create the same model on another Website. I just have to export the page template and import it to another Website.

In this article, I will show you how to do this.

How to create a template

Just go to the Saved Templates under models Elementor. Click on the button " Add ».

Indicate whether you want a page template or a section template or any other template. Give it a name. Click on the button " Create a template ».

Just select one of the free templates by clicking on the folder icon Add a template.

Select a model you like and click " Insert ". It will download the template and put it on the page.

Press on " Publish "And then" come back to THE WORDPRESS EDITOR ».

Take a look at your saved models and see that your model is saved.

Now, to export a template, just hover the mouse over your saved template and click “Export Template”.

It will download a JSON file to your computer. You can rename it if you want to make it easier to identify.

Head towards each other Website and access your saved templates. Click the “Import Templates” button.

Select the template or JSON file you downloaded and click "Import Now".

You will see in your saved templates that the template has been imported.

Another way to do this is when creating a new template or adding a template, there is an option to import a template.

Select the template or JSON file you downloaded and it will be added to your library My models. You can now insert the template on the page.

Error importing a model and how to fix it

Now what if you tried to import a template and encountered an invalid file error?

Don't worry. This is a common error and normally occurs when the model you are trying to import is created from an older version ofElementor.

Is there a fix for this? Yes, there certainly are.

So here is what you need to do. Downgrade your version of Elementor.

How? Just go to the Elementor plugins list and in the advanced view you will find the Previous Version section at the bottom.

I suggest you select and download the latest stable version of Elementor.

Now there are two ways to downgrade your plugin version.

First of all, you need to go to plugins. Disable and then delete Elementor. You can then download and activate the old version that you downloaded.

Second, you can install a plugin called Easy Theme and Plugin Upgrades. It's actually one of my favorite plugins. What it does is that even if you have a plugin installed, it allows you to install a plugin on it. I find it very convenient and use it on all of my websites.

So, with this plugin installed, you can download the old version of Elementor and overwrite the current version you have. Activate the plugin.

You will see that the Elementor is downgraded to the previous version.

Go to your Elementor library and import the model created from the old version. You will see that it is already imported into your library.

Go back to plugins and upgrade your version of Elementor to the latest version. When you refresh your dashboard, you will be able to see that in your Saved Templates, the model is there and imported correctly.
