WordPress 4.8 started at the kernel developer meeting and the schedule for the next release is now released. The 1 beta is scheduled for the May 12 and the official release is scheduled for the June 8. This will be the first major release in 2017 and will focus on setting up the new Gutenberg Editor. The calendar identifies the features that contributors intend to export for the 4.8 version:

  • TinyMCE element / inline element limits
  • New media widgets
  • WYSIWYG in the text widget

Update the WordCamp / meetup dashboard to the " News Feed«

Several contributors expressed concern during the calendar meeting that beta and RC testing times are about half the time they had in the past to do the same tests. In addition, with the proximity of WordCamp Europe, which officially begins operations the following week, also presented additional concerns about the additional workload of a publication in the May / June deadline.

« I think people think of it as a normal way out, of a train leaving the station with a lot of things (multisite! Meta!) Said Matt Mullenweg, head of the 4.8 version. " I agree that it takes a much longer time ».

« What is really happening is that we have a few simple, and improved plugins that add a few files, and we want those to be available to users as soon as possible. We have already updated TinyMCE all the time. Potential breaks or compatibility should be limited to things that interact with the text widget or the dashboard news module. »

After a brief discussion on Appointment notes, the proposed schedule has been confirmed. The merge time of the feature project will be available on May 10, followed by Beta 1 two days later. Any enhancements that are not ready on this time limit will be put on hold for later release.

I will certainly keep you informed when the update is available and downloadable.
