The WordPress 4.8 timeline is released. This will be the first major WordPress release of 2017. We are monitoring development closely and are delighted to report that the final version will be available as we told you around June 8, 2017. In this tutorial we will show you what which will be available on WordPress 4.8 with features and screenshots.

Note: You can try the beta on your computer or in an intermediate environment by using the plugin WordPress Beta Tester.

The official beta will be released on May 12, which means there won't be any new features until the final version of WordPress 4.8. However, some of the functionality of the beta version may not be available in the final version.

Visual editor on the text widget

By default, WordPress comes with a simple text widget. This widget contains a simple text box where you can add text and HTML code.

Beginners who are not familiar with HTML were unable to add links or use basic formatting on the text widget. This will change in WordPress 4.8.

The new text widget is a simple visual and text editor. Similar to the one you see on the post editor.

This will allow novice users to easily add links, create lists, or create bold / italic text without writing HTML code.

A new widget for images

At this point, if you want to display an image on the sidebar of WordPress, you will have to write some HTML code or use a plugin.

WordPress 4.8 will present an image widget that will allow users to easily add images to the sidebar. You will be able to upload an image directly from the widget or select an image from the media library on WordPress.

Clicking on the selected image opens the media download pop-up where users can download or select an image. After inserting the image, users will be able to see a preview of the image on the widget area.

The new video widget

Like the image widget, WordPress 4.8 will also introduce the Video widget. This will allow users to easily upload videos to their sidebar or view any YouTube, Vimeo or any other video provider. contents “OEmbed”.

Note: We recommend that you never upload videos to your WordPress site. Instead, you should use a provideraccommodation video like YouTube or Vimeo. Simply click the “Select Video” button in the widget, then click the “Insert from URL” link.

New widgets on the dashboard to display news

WordPress 4.8 will also feature the “WordPress Event” and “News dashboard” widget. It will appear on your WordPress dashboard and contain information on WordPress news as well as WordPress events near your location. This will replace the old WordPress news widget which only showed WordPress news.

If you have multiple users on your Website, the widget will show you events based on your locations. It will automatically try to detect a user's location by sending their timezone, location, and IP address to api.wordpress.org.

Users can also change location to manually enter their locations or view events from any other location.
