The internal linking tool is a premium Yoast SEO feature. Internal linking is one of the most important ways to optimize your pages. Internal links contribute to a better structure of the site, facilitating the exploration and indexing of your pages, and could increase your visit time on Google Analytics. This is a way to point Google to your main pages.
Getting started with the internal linkage tool
We need to determine what your articles are about, and we do that byanalysis of your content. You can start the process in Yoast SEO settings:
Click on the button Analyze to launch theanalysis and building these internal link suggestions. This is the first step. No need to do it again, unless you have a good reason for it.
What does the internal liaison tool look like?
Now that theanalysis has been carried out, you will have a suggestion of internal links. It’s a handy sidebar element on WordPress. It looks a little like this, depending on your WordPress setup:
On the left you see the content being edited, on the right you see a long list of articles written before. It is divided into two sections:
- Cornerstone content
- regular content
With Yoast SEO, you can mark a specific post as Angular Content just below where you have the focus keyword add section:
Check this box to add to articles as Angular content in the link tool. These are articles that you want to link to. You probably guessed that the other section contains all your related articles.
How to easily add internal links
In the internal linking tool, you will see two icons:
- A check box for all articles that you have already linked in your article
- A copy / paste icon. Click on this icon, to have the link in the clipboard.
Then there is a drag and drop feature, which makes internal linking even easier. Just click on a link and hold the mouse button. Move to where you want to add the link, and that's it.
With this "drag and drop" option, you can create a linked article on the fly, just to name one of the possibilities.
