However, sometimes it may not automatically list your Website right away. Since Google is the most important source of traffic for most websites, it is important that your site is immediately listed in Google. If you follow WordPress SEO best practices, search engines like Google can automatically find your Website. However, this might take a while and you will miss out on potential customers.

But you can easily speed up this process. Let's take a look at how to easily index your WordPress site on Google.

Advertise your WordPress site on Google

Before you start, you need to create an account Google Webmasters Tool (also called Search Console).

1 Step: Check WordPress Settings for Search Engine Visibility

After setting up your Webmaster Tools account, you need to make sure that your WordPress site is visible to search engines. You can check this by going to Settings »Play and scrolling to the option of search engine visibility .

Be sure to remove the check mark from this option so that search engines can crawl your website.

Remember to click on the “Save Changes” button to save your settings.

Step 2: Installing Yoast SEO Plugin

The next thing you need to do is install and activate the plugin Yoast SEO. For more details, see our step-by-step guide to way to install a WordPress plugin .

After activation, you will see a new item in your WordPress admin menu titled SEO. Go ahead and click on it to see the plugin's settings page.

On the settings page, you will see the Webmaster Tools tab. We will use it to connect the Google Search Console with your WordPress site.

Step 3: Connecting Google Search Console to WordPress

Now that you have Yoast SEO installed, you need to add your website to Google Search Console. You can do this by clicking on the button Add property in your Google Search Console account.

In the website field, you need to add the full URL of the website. It is important that you use the same URL that you see in your browser's URL bar, including WWW or not www, as well as HTTPS.

Once you add the website URL, you go to the verification page where you need to verify that you are the owner of this website. There are several methods you can use to verify ownership. The easiest method is listed under the tab Alternative methods called "HTML tag". It will give you a meta code that you need to copy.

Then go back to your WordPress admin area and visit SEO »page General . In the tab Tools for the Webmasters , you must paste the code in the field Google verification code .

When you are done, click the button Save Changes. Now go back to the Google search console account and click on the button Vérifier . The ownership of your website will be verified successfully.

4 Step: Configuring XML Sitemaps

Once your site is verified you need to go to the page SEO »Generalin the WordPress admin area and click on the tab Features. Then you need to scroll down to the XML sitemaps option and enable it.

After that click on the button Save Changes to correctly configure XML sitemaps on WordPress.

To view your sitemaps, you can click on the question mark icon next to the XML sitemaps title. It will display the link that you can follow to see all of your XML sitemaps.

Next, you need to submit your sitemap to Google Webmaster Tools. Sitemaps help Google search bots easily find and index your new content.

Step 5: Sending XML Sitemaps to Google Search Console

Simply log into your account on the Google search console and select your website.

You need to access Explorer »Sitemaps on the left side of the screen.

Then you have to click on the button Add / Test sitemap on your screen and add your sitemap URL.

Your main sitemap file is sitemap_index.xml and it contains links to all of the other sitemaps on your site. You just need to submit that main sitemap link, and Google will automatically crawl all other sitemaps on your website.

Once you have completed these steps, you can visit your account on the Google Search Console to verify your listings. After Google crawls and indexes your website, you start to see reports in Search Console.
