You have a blog, and want to share your visiteurs from your instagram? I bet your first instinct will be to look for a plugin. Well I have better for you, do not install at all costs, use the IFTTT web service instead to link your Instagram account to your WordPress blog. In this tutorial, I will show you how to synchronize your WordPress blog with your Instagram feed.

Start with IFTTT service

The IFTTT service allows you to connect applications so that the actions of one are reflected in the other. It is therefore an action / reaction scheme. In our case the action will be to post a photo on Instagram and the reaction to have a new article created automatically with the photo on it.

For this you must have an IFTTTT account. If you haven't yet visit IFTTT.com, Click on the button Sign Up at the top right, enter your email and a password. Once authenticated, all you have to do is connect your Instagram account to your WordPress blog. In IFTTT jargon these are channels.

Then click on Channels, then on the page that appears search for Instagram or type Instagram in the search bar and click on the Instagram icon then on the button Connect to begin the process of integrating your Instagram account with IFTTT.

Different ways to share your Instagrams on your blog are to be considered. You can decide to publish all of your Instagram feed, only those with a certain tag, only photos, only videos or finally create your own method. The actions you use to trigger the reaction (post to WordPress) are called Recipe In the IFTTT jargon. Without waiting any longer let us see this.

How to publish all your instagram feed on your WordPress blog

To begin, you can try the many recipes that already exist on the IFTTT website. To search for them, click Browse In the menu and choose a recipe. For this example we will use the recipe Instagram to blog.

Click on Connect to configure configure it. Here it will be the title, category, tags, and publication status of the WordPress article that you will have to enter. By default in this recipe, the title will be that of the Instagram post, but you can change it to whatever you want. Finally, click on Add. Now, every time you post an Instagram, it will be available a few minutes later on your blog with all the information you added.

When you want, you can review your recipes by clicking on My Recipes in the menu. From there, you can also see their logs or disable them without removing them all at once.

How to filter by tags the instagrams you publish on your blog WordPress

Instead of posting all your Instagrams on your blog, you can select only a few by giving them a tag that the IFTTT service will recognize. In this example we will use the recipe Instagram photos tagged #wp to WordPress. Adding the tag #wp is what will make the IFTTT service understand that the current instagram is to be published on your WordPress blog.

The novelty here is that the tag #wp and already present in the fields corresponding to the tags. Once again, you can decide to change it if you wish. When everything looks OK, click Add to activate the recipe. From this moment, when you post an instagram with the tag #wp or any other tag that you have configured in this recipe, it will automatically be published on your blog.

How to publish only photos or videos

You may want to post photos only and not videos. For this you could use tags, but the best is the recipe  New photo by Instagram user, create new WordPress post. Fill in his fields at your convenience, click on Add, and you will see all your instagram photos published on your blog but no videos.

To publish only the videos, the recipe Instagram video to WordPress blog will do. Don't forget to click Add to activate it.

Create your own Instagram recipe - WordPress

Creating your own recipe is particularly interesting if those existing on IFTTT do not suit you. With this possibility you can customize the transfer of your instagrams to your WordPress blog by adding and removing fields at your convenience.

To get started, click on your username in the menu and choose Create in the list that appears. You will be directed to the process of setting up your new recipe. Click on the this de ifthisthenthat (understand if-action-then-reaction).

Then choose Channel of your action. In our case it's Instagram. IFTTT then presents you with a list of actions compatible with the Channel. In the list you have:

  • New photos by you
  • New photos by you with a specific hashtag
  • New photos by you in a specific geographical area
  • You liking another photo
  • New photos by a specific user
  • New photo by any other users
  • New photos by any other users using a specific hashtag
  • New videos by you
  • New videos by you with a specific hashtag
  • You liking a video
  • New videos by a specific user
  • New videos by any other users with a specific hashtag

Depending on the action you choose, IFTTT will ask you for information. For example, choose New photo by anyone in area will bring IFTTT to ask you for information about your geographical location.
