Monetization is a big deal for most publishers looking to make money online with their content.

Besides a few advertising solutions like Google Adsense, there aren't any other important options for publishers.

Automattic, the company behind one of the most popular WordPress.com publishing platforms is trying to tackle this problem.

By introducing its own advertising program - WordAds, Automattic tried to test blog monetization for a few years. The company had been experimenting with the program on its WordPress.com blogs since 2012.

The 18 Update January 2017 : WordAds now returns automatic ads and is part of the plugin WordPress Jetpack. To use automatic announcements, go to the section Engagement> Announcements of the Jetpack plugin. This program is only available to Jetpack users on the Premium plan (9,00 $ per month or 99 $ per year).

The program has been successful with WordPress.com editors and has been adopted by WordPress VIP.

WordAds is open to all self-hosted WordPress blogs, which makes monetization easier for 25% of the web.
