Websites are all different, and the larger a site, the more difficult it is to navigate without an effective menu, as far as men are concerned. Regarding robots (those sent by Google to review your blog), the difficulty is similar.

A sitemap is quite similar to a real map. You can think of it as an electronic map or e-map for the search engines, so that they better index your blog.

Why is this important?

When your website is large and has multiple articles under multiple categories, it becomes more difficult for search engines to crawl your blog for new content.

If you have multiple posts inappropriately linked, if you have content isolated from the rest of your blog. This content, which has no reference is an orphan and is almost difficult to access for a visitor. Let us imagine that this isolated known has no external links.

In such a situation, if the search engines do not have a link to these items, then they will most likely be isolated from the traffic. A sitemap will allow you to make isolated content available.

Sitemaps also consider account data. This will allow search engines to know what your blog is talking about.

Google also says sitemaps can help websites, but a sitemap doesn't guarantee that a page will be indexed.

How to create a sitemap on WordPress?

You can use a plugin designed for sitempas or you can use a blog optimization plugin for indexing. Several WordPress blogs use Yoast Seo (previously known as WordPress SEO), I will show you how to do sitemaps with this plugin.

Yoast SEO

If you are using a plugin for search engine optimization, either Yoast SEO or a Similar plugin, you will not have much to do, because the generation of sitemaps is often automatic.

YoastXML

It is not enough to simply create the site map, the search engines need to be informed of the changes. Yoast makes it easy, as it pings Google and Bing to see your sitemap.

Yoast SEO also produces a stylesheet which can be read as an HTML file. The importance of all of this is that you can actually verify that the correct URL is represented and included with the necessary priority.

Styled-XML-Sitemap

Sitemap generators notify Google and Bing automatically just like Yoast SEO does. the sitemap URL is appended to the "robots.txt" file, which is the first destination for a robot when it accesses your blog.

Discover how to optimize your robots.txt file for better referencing.

With a sitemap, you will be able to choose which elements are included in the sitemap. You can also exclude certain articles and categories in particular:

  • Home
  • Articles
  • Pages
  • Categories
  • Archives
  • The authors page
  • The keywords page

Aside from the ability to include or exclude content, you can also set the priority and frequency of certain elements, for each aspect of your blog.

Installing a sitemap manually

Plugins for SEO optimization automatically submit your sitemap to search engines, so you don't have to do anything there. Chances are it will work, however in some situations you will need to use the tool. Google Search Console, Which you will find in your Google Webmaster Tools account, to send the Sitemap.

It's a pretty straightforward process, but repeatedly generating sitemaps and submitting them can be a waste of time. It is wiser to use the above plugins to spend your time doing something more useful.

Added benefits

Many sites now engage in content syndication and some even actively steal content and display it on their websites without any official permission from the site owner (also called scratching content). Due to new changes built into Google's search algorithms, sites that copy content are punished quite harshly.
