WordPress is a flexible tool that adapts to almost any situation, giving users the ability to publish dynamic content through articles and static content with pages.

However, if you want to use WordPress primarily as a static content management system without the blogging, you will need to disable these features on your blog using the plugin “ Disable Blogging Designed by Fact Maven Corp and Ethan Jinks O'Sullivan.

Why disable blogging on WordPress

You can ask what may be the different situations in which you will need to disable blogging on WordPress. You must already know that WordPress is a powerful tool that can be used both to create websites, but also web applications.

If you want to build a web application, you may not want to use the blog feature (see even hide it completely). But the reasons are not limiting.

How to disable blogging on WordPress

All you have to do is install and activate the plugin " Disable Blogging ", Available on WordPress.org. You can read our tutorial on installing WordPress plugin.

Disable blogging plugin WordPress

The plugin does not need configuration and for good reason, does not offer a configuration interface. All you need to do is activate the plugin. Once activated, the plugin performs a set of tasks:

  • Disables item menus, dashboard comments
  • Mask page comments
  • Hides widgets related to blogs
  • Disables pingbacks, trackbacks, and XML
  • Hides the biographical information on the user's profile
  • Articles by email

To really get a feel for what the blogging plugin does, I activated the plugin on a clean install.

WordPress profile

There are two things that stand out immediately in the trials. The first is that the connection leads to the profile page instead of the dashboard. Second, some links on the dashboard have disappeared.

I have found that removing the link to the dashboard creates a shocking experience that is different than what users might expect. It is useful to display widgets with site specific information even for page based sites, this is a huge benefit so its elimination should be reconsidered.

Exploring the dashboard, using the plugin creates quite a different experience which I recommend. I tested the plugin on WordPress version 4.5.3 with no issues. The next time you need to disable features of blogging on WordPress, you should consider using the plugin.

The plugin does not remove features, it hides them. You will therefore have no fear as to the loss of data.

That's all for this tutorial, I hope you find this plugin equally interesting for me.
