How to export / import Widgets settings in WordPress

You have just changed your web host or simply installed your WordPress site on a new server. You also managed to restore a backup of your database, but… your widgets are not configured as on the old site.

When moving your WordPress site, you need to save and reuse a widget's settings from one WordPress installation to another. If the blog has a few widgets, then you can probably do it manually.

However, if it has many widgets in multiple sidebars (lateral bar), then you will need a better solution. In this tutorial therefore, we will show you how import / export the settings of your widgets in WordPress.

The first thing you need to do is to install and activate the plugin Widget Settings Import / Export . After activation, go to Tools »Export Settings Widget

Select the widgets you want to export then click on the button Export Widget Settings . The plugin will then export all your widgets currently active in the file widget_data.json .

To restore these widgets in another WordPress installation, you will need to install and activate the plugin as well. Widget Settings Import / Export on this site. Once you have activated the plugin, go to Tools »Import Settings Widget And click on the button Select file  "Select a file".

Search the file JSON previously saved and then click on the button View Widgets settings . The plugin now loads widget data from the imported file and will show you the list of widgets.

Select the widgets you want to import and click Import Widget Settings  « Import Widget Settings «  . All your widgets will be restored in the appropriate sidebar.

Please note that if you have activated your widgets added to your site by a plugin, then you will not be able to import these widgets, until you have installed the plugins on the final site.
