What is the real difference between pages and posts on a WordPress site and what to choose? This is a question many people ask themselves. beginner bloggers…and I'm willing to bet you want to know that too.
Should we really compare the two?
With articles, it is possible to produce periodic and succinct content on a given topic, accessible from the blog home page. You have the right tools that will help you better organize your articles, including keywords and categories.
With pages, it is possible to create static content accessible from a specific address. Unlike articles, to better organize pages, you can create a hierarchy, including the functionality of parent pages.
On the one hand, we have a news feed which includes all the articles and on the other hand, we have content that does not follow No chronology. So at first glance, the difference is obvious.
The origin of the confusion
With new versions of WordPress, new features added to the blog section have also been added (partially) added to the pages, which adds to the confusion.
It's the case for :
- comments available on both pages and articles
- the shortcodes which are both available for pages and articles
- the featured image that you can add to both pages and articles
- Personalized permalinks articles and pages that are identical
And as if that were not enough, there are several WordPress plugins which enable add keywords and categories on pages, or to create a hierarchy between the articles.
How to use both
You probably understood it, the blog section will help you create a news feed for your subscribers, While the pages section will help you organize your blog. Organize your blog so that you can use any page as the blog home page.
Seen from this angle, the pages have a much larger dimension, because they are the support of all types of extensions on WordPress (portfolio, blog, forum, social network, shop). But it goes without saying thatthey are really not suitable to be used for the blog.
If you want Create a blog, then publish your content as “articles”. And if you want to create a completely different type of site, use pages.
So much for this little explanation which I hope will allow you to better understand how WordPress works. Feel free to ask other questions on the subject if you have any.
I have a quick question: I have a blog under wordpress and I wanted to know if it was important to reference a page and if so, how to correctly reference it with SEO given that a page has no content.
Besides, regarding SEO, should the SEO title be the same as that of our article or rather correspond to what a reader might type in their search engine?
Thank you for lighting my lantern!
And since this is the first time that I am contacting you, I take this opportunity to tell you that your blog has helped me a lot to launch mine, I who knew absolutely nothing about it
Thank you for the quality and relevance of your articles!
Hello Jenny,
Glad to know that our content helps you create a better blog and thank you for the testimony.
To come back to your question, you should know that basically pages and articles are the same thing. Only a few features differentiate them.
So the SEO efforts you make for articles should the same for your pages. The SEO title, description and keywords, everything should be the same. For Google, it's just content, for wordpress, it's the difference helps you organize your site better.
Did I answer your question?
Hello Jenny,
It is always a pleasure to share everything we know, and we are happy to know that you are helped by our advice.
For the 1st question, in principle, all the pages of a blog are automatically indexed, so that even if the latter has no content, it will be indexed if it has a link on your home page or everywhere elsewhere accessible by search engines. However, you should be aware that this index will be empty because no search will redirect to it, since it has no content.
For the second question, in principle, the titles, description and keywords of the SEO plugin by Yoast override those available by default on WordPress. So the title you will mention on the meta boxes of the plugin will be taken into consideration by the search engine
On the other hand in the key words, you can enter the key phrases which could possibly constitute the research of an Internet user.
I hope to have answered your question.
