Recently, we received a rather special request from a subscriber who was trying to send WordPress to his server. Indeed, for some, FileZilla (Which is also my choice) is not a solution that could be suitable for everyone.

Although it is true that we have in a previous tutorial shown how to install WordPress with ithowever, you might want to take advantage of other solutions that are just as effective as FileZilla.

In this tutorial, I will offer you 5 tools which you can use to transfer the WordPress installation folder to your server.

ftp

First of all, what is an FTP client?

FTP or " File Transfer Protocol "(File Transfer Protocol), is a specific protocol specifically designed for sending and receiving files between a local computer and a remote server.

An FTP client is software designed to execute the transfer of files via a user-friendly interface.

FTP for Windows

1. WinSCP

winscp

Download the client

WinSCP is one of the most used FTP clients on Windows. Despite the fact that it has a fairly overloaded interface, it is still quite easy to handle.

On the left side you have the files on your computer and on the right you have the files on the remote server. Just click on a file to upload, download or edit it.

For advanced users, WinSCP has all the features you might want in an FTP client. It supports SFTP, SSH and of course the FTP protocol.

2. FireFTP

fireftp

Download the client

FireFTP is an extension available for FireFox (the web browser). The user experience seems perfect because FireFTP seems to integrate well with the web browser.

Most importantly, since FireFox is available on Windows, Linux, and Mac, you can use it on most operating systems.

3. FileZilla

filezillawp

Download FileZilla

FileZilla is one of the most popular FTP clients available on almost any platform.

It is perhaps the most widely used FTP client in the world today. However, the reason I am not placing it among the top picks is because of spyware that was recently discovered on FileZilla's packages. But hey, this is a flaw existing at the time of this writing, which will be corrected when you read this tutorial 🙂

You can install FileZilla from the website official. Linux users will find it on the official directories.

FTP Clients for Mac

4. Transmit

transmitted

Download Transmit

Transmit is one of the most popular FTP clients on Mac, especially among developers. It offers powerful features like folder synchronization and faster speed.

I must say however that Transmit is not software free, it will cost you almost $34 for a single license.

5. Cyberduck

cyberduck

Download Cyberduck

CyberDuck is software free available for Mac and Windows. It is extremely easy to use software that easily integrates with the Mac environment. It supports internal system features like saving login information and searching files with " Finder ».

You can even select the preferred file editor for possible file modifications.

FTP clients for linux

Linux also has a lot of FTP clients, but most of them run via a command, making them difficult to use especially for beginners. You can also use clients like FireFTP or FileZilla on linux.

Despite this, there are very few FTP clients that use a graphical interface.

6. gFTP

gftp

Download gFTP

gFTP is an FTP client free and " open source »Available on Linux. It offers a fairly clean interface that allows users to easily use it. It supports FTP, FTPS, HTTP, HTTPS and FSP protocols. Sending and editing files is quite similar to FileZilla's.

That's all for this list of FTP clients, I hope you find a solution that will suit you. Feel free to suggest this list to your friends on your favorite social networks.
