I finished the e-business today. For more information, see the Live demo et Features page. You can also check out a live demo of alternative skins Shine et Lisse. I know this theme took a little longer than usual to complete – sometimes it's hard to finalize something when everyone keeps commenting on the sneak peek post giving me new ideas! As I mentioned in my preview article, I titled this theme “eBusiness” because of the emphasis on using a “page-by-page layout”. This means that in essence it was created to function more like a CMS than a blog, however, you will find that you are also free to ditch the page-based structure and run a more traditional blog. You can also implement a blog section in your Website based on pages.

I added several new options to the Ecommerce Theme Options page. Because of this, it was getting rather boring to navigate the page, having to scroll endlessly in a single column to edit and save your changes. For this reason, I completely revamped the options page, organizing its contents into an easy-to-use two-level tab menu. I get a lot of questions about how my themes work and what exactly is offered in these "options pages". To help better illustrate exactly how this theme works, I'll try to give a written overview now.

The options page has 5 main sections: layout, home page, blog setup, navigation, and ad management. Each of these sections is divided into several sub-tabs for your convenience. I'll give you a quick overview of what each of these sections has to offer.

1. PROVISION – The layout tab contains some of the main overlay options that affect the structure and theappearance of your website.

  1. Color schemes - eBusiness comes with three skins, and each skin comes in three colors. You can switch between these 9 different variations at any time from the drop-down menu.
  2. Structure of Website - The essence of e-commerce is to act like a CMS, creating a page-based layout. I did, however, include the ability to bypass the page-based homepage in favor of a normal blog layout. You can switch between page structure and blog structure at any time.
  3. Footer options - You will notice that each page has a widgetized footer at the bottom. I realize that if you are using eBusiness as a CMS, you might not need standard widget elements, which are usually blogging related. This option allows you to completely disable the footer if you don't intend to use it, or if you find yourself filling it with unnecessary text widgets and what not to fill the design.
  4. About me section - As with my other themes, I have included an "About Me" widget which can be added to the sidebar. You can customize it here.

2. HOME - The home page tab allows you to manage your home page. If you are using the blog style, most of these options do not apply, but if you are using the page-based system, you will need to use this area to set up your homepage.

  1. Cursor control - You will notice that the demo has 3 sliding elements at the top of the home page. These are managed via the Home page tab. Here you can customize the content text, the tab title, the text used in the button, the thumbnail image (which is automatically resized) and an optional read more link, which can be pointed anywhere . You can also choose the number of sliding elements to display, between 1 and 3.
  2. Page control - The content of the home page is made up of WordPress pages. You will create a page in wp-admin and then define the page to use in the options tab of the home page. Just enter the page id of the pages you want to use and they will appear. You can also choose the number of pages you want to use, from 1 to 4.
  3. Blog scrolling - Even if you use the page based system, you can still have a blog area on your site. For this reason, I have included a blogroll on the homepage with a link to your most recent articles. This can be turned off if you don't plan to have a blog section. You can choose the number of recent posts to display. You can also customize the RSS link if you want to direct it to your feedburner account.

3. BLOG CONFIGURATION – If you are using the blog structure or planning to include a blog in your Website based on pages, you can customize your blog here. I've tried to give a little more control over various elements of the blog, taking inspiration from the most common requests on the forum.

  1. Message format - You can choose between "Blog style" mode or "Default" mode. Blog Style mode displays your articles in their entirety on index pages, while the default mode automatically truncates the article to create a brief preview with a "learn more" link. Unlike my other themes, you can now customize your post preview duration when using default mode. Just enter the number of characters you want to display. Another thing I added is the possibility to use your message extract as preview, instead of automatic truncation.
  2. Categories Bar - The category bar, with links to your different blog categories, only appears on blog pages. However, if you are using the blog as just a recent news section and you don't plan to have multiple categories, you can turn off this category bar. I realize that having a big red bar that spans the width of the page with a single link pointing to the page you are already on would have been pointless!
  3. Additional control of the publication preview - In addition to changing the length of article previews, you can also adjust the size of the thumbnail, as well as toggle "Learn More" link and article info bar on / off. Thanks to timthumb all thumbnails are automatically resized, cropped and cached, which means you can instantly change the size of your thumbnails with just one click. You can also hide the thumbnails completely if you don't want them. You can also adjust the quality of the thumbnails, increasing / decreasing it depending on how fast you want your loading time to be.

4. NAVIGATION OPTIONS - Navigation options allow you to customize the navigation bar. You can use it to exclude pages from navigation, adjust the order of links, add a link to your Blog section (if you use one) and so on. Category and page navigation bars can be changed here.

5. ADVERTISING MANAGEMENT - As for the rest of my themes, I have included a banner management system. You can add 125 × 125 and 468 × 60 banners here. In the page, I added a preview of the banner for each field so that you can see which banner you want to edit more easily. I also have added the possibility to choose the number of 125 × 125 banners you want to display. This was a very common request on the forums. You can now choose between 2 to 8 banners, all editable in the theme options page. You can also choose where you want the banners to be displayed. You can add them to your Pages sidebar, blog sidebar, or both. You also have the option to turn them off completely.

1. EARTH - I realize that the default layout is very "niche" in its grungy appearances, and wanted to be sure to include other options as well. eBusiness comes with three different skins, and each skin comes in three different color combinations for a total of nine choices. The first one, which I like to call “Earthen,” features a grungy naturalistic design. Earthen is available in three colors including Red, Blue et Purple. You take a look at the live demo here.

2. RADIANCE - The second skin is called “Radiate” and presents a more high-tech style with a professional touch. I wanted to create something flashy and exciting that wasn't necessarily tied to a specific type of website. This skin is available in three colors including Blue, Vert et Red. You can consult the live demo here.

3. SMOOTH - After posting these two previews on Twitter, I was concerned that both layouts were too busy for some people's tastes. For this reason, I created a third skin, titled “Smooth”, which is a bit more modest in its approach. Hope people looking for a more traditional business presentation will find this skin useful. Like the rest, it is available in three colors, including Blue, Vert et Rose. You can see the live demo here.

That pretty much sums it up. Hope everyone is doing well, and hope you find some great uses for the theme. Please post a comment and tell me what you like / dislike. I appreciate your contribution 🙂
