• How to choose a niche?
  • How to choose a profitable niche?
  • How to choose the subject of his blog?

This article is an excerpt from one of the lessons of theblogger school, training reserved for all those who want to succeed on the internet.

Choosing a topic to blog about is an extremely important decision. This is a crucial step that will impact your failures or successes.

Choosing the Right Niche can make your life extraordinarily easier and attract success. People will identify quite naturally with the goal of your blog and will naturally share your content. The right topic makes you want to blog and to share with his readers, which is not the case with the bad subject (bad niche).

A topic (niche) poorly chosen will inevitably complicate you life as long as you blog on it. Worse yet, none of your visitors will want to come back to your site and you'll end up like all those bloggers who spend their time jumping from blog to blog and topic to topic every month. The consequences of a bad choice of niche will always be disastrous.

In fact, choosing the best subject for your blog depends on your current situation, but also and above all on the ultimate goal that you wish to achieve with your blog. The blog is a tool that allows you to achieve a specific goal, and if you do not know what you want to achieve as a goal, you will simply be unable to achieve success.

It's too easy to say that you are creating a blog to make money and live your blogging job. That's why, but do you know only for who ? Who are you blogging for?

When thinking about topics you could blog about, always keep in mind that there is not one way to pick a topic for your blog. I just give you guidelines (tracks or bases), after, it will be up to you to customize them according to your realities, but also your goals.

I prefer to talk about a subject that you are going to blog about and not a niche because, the simple fact of using subject and not niche takes you away from this bad opportunistic approach which leads you to choose a subject only for its income potential, pushing you away by the same opportunity for success on the internet. The word niche refers more to the opportunity to make money. So we're going to talk more about the topic.

Do not wait to find the perfect subject because it is not always easy to start. It took me two years to find the main subject of my blog. I do not insinuate that it takes you two years too to find the theme of your blog, no. I know bloggers who found the subject of their blogs right from the start or just weeks after. So everything depends.

But no matter, and if you do not want to be paralyzed by all those choices that cross your mind, the most important when you have ideas, it's to start. Only in action will you find it.

Do not be paralyzed by information overload. Well, you're not going to start with anything either. So be sure to start with a topic that is close to your passion, your potential or a subject you are ready to learn.

At this point, progress must be your primary goal, not perfection. You can always change your subject later or even change it completely. Everything remains possible.

So let's start by reviewing your goals for the blog you're about to create.

Here are some goals you might (should) have:

  • Explore a topic
  • Create relationships with other bloggers (friendly)
  • Learn to identify the needs of your readers
  • Learn to write articles
  • Learn to write catchy headlines
  • Learn how to create a business around your blog
  • Improve your understanding of blogging
  • Etc

Personally, I recommend that you launch your blog only after completing this training. No rush. Learning is the best opportunity for a blogger, not money.

Give yourself time to master the basics
And your actions will be more effective.

To return (concretely) to the choice of the subject of your blog, here are some simple steps to follow.

1. Write down the goals you want to achieve with the blog you are about to create.

  • What is your end goal?
  • What do you expect from this blog?
  • Friends ?
  • The wealth ?
  • Pastime ?

Whatever the reasons, write them down! However, I wouldn't advise you to start blogging for money, although we know full well that this is sort of your ultimate goal. Most bloggers who started a blog just to make money never made a fortune. Ironically, when they started blogging to be useful, they made a lot of money.

You the ultimate goal you are going to choose must come closer to utility than greed. Also note the intermediate objectives of each of your goals.

2. List the topics you found based on:

  • Your experience on the subject
  • Your interest on the subject
  • Your desire to learn to blog on the subject

Do not just write everything that goes through your head, because some research on the internet can be useful (to find ideas). Again, do not take this step lightly. Take the time you need because it's better to spend a week choosing the theme of your blog than spending years blogging on the wrong topic.

3. Eliminate topics that do not match
Review your list of topics and eliminate topics that are more difficult to reach and less important.

4. Make a short list of 3 to 10 favorite topics
Talk to someone you trust, preferably someone you do not trust. Discuss together the advantages and disadvantages of each topic according to your criteria.

If your goal is to make money from your blog, include this parameter in your criteria. There are many ways to make money on the internet from blogging: coaching, selling products and services, selling e-books, affiliate marketing, advertising etc.

So before making a final choice, check that another blogger has generated income on a similar topic. Either way, you shouldn't just pick a topic for its earning potential, you should also and most importantly pick it for the potential you have. You actually need to answer the most important question in your business:

How can I be of use to others?

This assumes that you must first identify a particular need or problem encountered in your niche. Preferably choose an unsolved or badly resolved problem. Then check that you have the skill to solve it better than anyone in less time and with greater efficiency.

Do not necessarily make your choice taking into account only the extent of the demand because the stronger the desire the more chances of making sales ... and the more unfortunately there is competition. Only those who have developed some specific skills will be able to share the cake.

At this point, you have to think about what makes a blog successful. Choose the topic that will allow you to cover the maximum number of factors, because it will be the one that will offer you more chances to achieve success.
