  • How to choose a niche?
  • How to choose a profitable niche?
  • How to choose the subject of his blog?

This article is an excerpt from one of the lessons of theblogger school, a training reserved for all those who want to succeed on the internet.

Choosing a topic to blog about is an extremely important decision. This is a crucial step that will impact your failures or successes.

Choosing the Right Niche can extraordinarily make your life easier and attract success. People will identify quite naturally with the purpose of your blog and will naturally share your content. The right topic makes you want to blog and to share with his readers, which is not the case with the bad subject (bad niche).

A topic (niche) poorly chosen will inevitably complicate you life as long as you blog on it. Worse still, none of your visitors will want to return to your site and you will end up like all those bloggers who spend their time going from one blog to another and from one topic to another every month. The consequences of a bad choice of niche will always be disastrous.

In fact, choosing the best topic for your blog depends on your current situation, but also and most importantly the ultimate goal you want to achieve with your blog. The blog is a tool that allows you to achieve a specific goal, and if you do not know what you want to achieve as a goal, you will simply be unable to achieve success.

It's too easy to say that you are creating a blog to make money and live your blogging job. That's why, but do you know only who is it for? Who do you blog for?

When thinking about topics you could blog about, always keep in mind that there is not one way to pick a topic for your blog. I just give you guidelines (tracks or bases), after, it will be up to you to customize them according to your realities, but also your goals.

I prefer to talk about a subject on which you are going to blog and not a niche because the mere fact of using subject and not niche takes you away from this bad opportunistic approach that leads you to choose a topic solely for its revenue potential, moving away by the same opportunity for success on the internet. The word niche refers more to the opportunity to make money. So we will not talk about the subject anymore.

Do not wait to find the perfect subject because it is not always easy to start. It took me two years to find the main subject of my blog. I do not insinuate that it takes you two years too to find the theme of your blog, no. I know bloggers who found the subject of their blogs right from the start or just weeks after. So everything depends.

But no matter, and if you do not want to be paralyzed by all those choices that cross your mind, the most important when you have ideas, it's to start. Only in action will you find it.

Do not be paralyzed by information overload. Well, you're not going to start with anything either. So be sure to start with a topic that is close to your passion, your potential or a subject you are ready to learn.

At this point, progress must be your primary goal, not perfection. You can always change your subject later or even change it completely. Everything remains possible.

So let's start by reviewing your goals for the blog you're about to create.

Here are some goals you could have:

  • Explore a topic
  • Create relationships with other bloggers (friendly)
  • Learn to identify the needs of your readers
  • Learn to write articles
  • Learn how to write catchy titles
  • Learn how to create a business around your blog
  • Improve your understanding of blogging
  • Etc.

Personally, I recommend you launch your blog only after completing this training. No rush. Learning is the best opportunity for a blogger, not money.

Give yourself time to master the basics
And your actions will be more effective.

To return (concretely) to the choice of the subject of your blog, here are some simple steps to follow.

1. Write down the goals you want to achieve with the blog you are about to create.

  • What is your ultimate goal?
  • What do you expect from this blog?
  • Friends ?
  • The wealth ?
  • Pastime ?

Whatever the reasons, write them down! However, I do not advise you to start blogging for money, although we know very well that this is somehow your ultimate goal. Most bloggers who started a blog just to make money have never made a fortune. Paradoxically, when they started blogging to be useful, they made a lot of money.

You the ultimate goal you are going to choose must come closer to utility than greed. Also note the intermediate objectives of each of your goals.

2. Make a list of topics that you have found based on:

  • Your experience on the subject
  • Your interest on the subject
  • Your desire to learn to blog on the subject

Do not just write everything that goes through your head, because some research on the internet can be useful (to find ideas). Again, do not take this step lightly. Take the time you need because it's better to spend a week choosing the theme of your blog than spending years blogging on the wrong topic.

3. Eliminate topics that do not match
Review your list of topics and eliminate topics that are more difficult to reach and less important.

4. Make a short list of 3 to 10 favorite topics
Talk to someone you trust, preferably someone you do not trust. Discuss together the advantages and disadvantages of each topic according to your criteria.

If your goal is to make money from your blog, include this setting in your criteria. There are many ways to make money on the internet from a blog: coaching, selling products and services, selling e-books, affiliate marketing, advertising etc.

Before making a final choice, check that another blogger has generated income on a similar topic. Anyway, you should not just pick a topic for its revenue potential, you should also and especially choose it for the potential you have. You must actually answer the most important question in your case:

Easily create your Online Store

How can I be useful to others?

This assumes that you must first identify a particular need or problem encountered in your niche. Preferably choose an unsolved or badly resolved problem. Then check that you have the skill to solve it better than anyone in less time and with greater efficiency.

Do not necessarily make your choice taking into account only the extent of the demand because the stronger the desire the more chances of making sales ... and the more unfortunately there is competition. Only those who have developed some specific skills will be able to share the cake.

At this point, you have to think about what makes a blog successful. Choose the topic that will allow you to cover the maximum number of factors, because it will be the one that will offer you more chances to achieve success.

  1. Thank you for your constructive article, regarding the development of the list of potential topics for a profitable blog niche I advise you to put 10 20 passions which as indicated in the article where you know you well and where you want to blog on it.

I invite you to read this short article to discover the 4 criteria to evaluate the profitability of a niche.

    Have a great day,

  2. Hello Thierry,

This is the first I visit your blog, it's interesting what you just explained in this article, however, the realization of the niche idea that remains unclear. Defining a niche topic is not easy, especially since a niche depends on a target audience, the ability to devote more time, and the patience to make loyal readers.

  3. First of all thank you for this good article.
Could you give 1 or 2 free wordpress theme if you were to do a blog on a niche.
Personally I'd thought Catch Box, but I think that it must have nicer now.
    Thank you in advance

  4. thank you for the info
I would like to know, what is the difference between this form of coaching and that proposed in your training?
    Best regards.

    1. With coaching, you have direct answers by skype. with training, teaching is global. But the training is better overall.

  5. Another great article!
I push back a lot to the next day because I can not find a blog topic ... In fact I have several great passions (performing arts (dance-singing, theater-writing), spirituality and psychology, and well-being (food, I would love to make two blogs a little general, the first artistic and therefore the second most spiritual-emotional-nature ...
But it is much too broad and at the same time everything seems to me bound. It seems strange to me to divide everything into several "niche blogs" as advocated by all bloggers. I would have the impression of not being Me, of forcing myself to divide everything whereas in my head a lot of things are connected ...

I need advice ... maybe you offer coaching, coaching? Just to find that answer that will help me get started? I do not know, I feel deep inside me that once I have found how to choose my subjects wisely, nothing will stop me:) ... Have a nice day

      1. not what but this morning very annoying to continue to import the articles in word when I do select all this puts me only the images and I can not do a simple copy paste thank you for helping me
